RECESS - February 3 Hi, Boys and Girls-Today is February 3. I have a book review for you today, and a picture for you to download too. The book is called Madeline and the Bad Hat, written and illustrated by Ludwig Bemelmans. This is just one of the Madeline stories. Some of the others are: Madeline, Madeline's Rescue, Madeline and the Gypsies, Madeline in London, and Madeline's Christmas. Madeline is a little French orphan girl living in an "old house in Paris that was covered with vines." There are twelve little orphan girls in all and they are cared for with grace and dignity by Miss Clavel. In this story the Spanish Ambassador moves in next door to the orphanage and the ambassador's son is a "bad hat," which is the French expression for a naughty boy. He is very nice to Miss Clavel, of course, so she thinks the girls must be confused when they tell her he throws rocks over the wall, makes faces over the wall, and chased cats! Read this delightful (dee ly t full) book to see how Madeline and the girls teach him a lesson about manners and telling the truth. Scroll down for a really cute picture of Madeline too. See you tomorrow-Mrs. L.
