RECESS - February 23

Hi, Boys and Girls. Today is February 23. Do you have a Birthday in February? If you do, I thought I would share a couple of party ideas with you.

It is fun to serve cherries in some way for a February party. That is because there is a legend about George Washington that he chopped down his father’s prize cherry tree. When his father found the tree cut down he asked George if he knew who had done it. The story goes that George replied that he could not tell a lie and he told his father the truth. That is the start of the stories about how honest he was. Lets have cherries over some ice cream at the party or how about a cherry vanilla cake?

Since it is cold in February in a lot of places, here is an idea for a good game. Give all of your guests a piece of paper and see who can list the most pieces of winter clothing they can think of. Things like gloves, mittens, cap, scarf and so on. Then put some clothing (cap, scarf, jacket, gloves, boots, raincoat and so on) in the middle of the room and have a timed contest to see who can put things on and take them off the fastest.

Another good game is called the Balloon Pop Hop. Tie a balloon to each person’s leg and play some fast dance music. Everyone tries to pop each others balloon by stepping on it. In the meantime, you have to protect your OWN balloon too. Great Fun!

For another game, make up a secret code (a=1, b=2, c=3) or something like that and then write some winter words in code and see who can figure them out. For example:

3-15-12-4 (3=c, 15=o, 12=l, 4=d) cold

Finally, for your treat bag, how about heart shaped cookies, balloons, and of course, a story book.

See you tomorrow with a good recipe to help your mom fix for dinner. Just right for a winter evening. Mrs. L.
