RECESS - March 18

Hi, Boys and Girls-Since today is March 18, I thought it might be fun to make a craft since parents would be home to help out. Let’s make a pinwheel and color it lots of bright pretty colors. It is March, you know and it is the month for winds to blow. As a matter of fact, as I sit here writing this note, the wind is really blowing outside my window. Here goes:

What You Need:

A square of white paper about 6 X 6 inches

Your box of colors from your junk box (Be sure to keep adding junk to your junk box as we will use stuff like paper towel rolls, tissue, crayons, markers, cotton, paper plates, - all of the time.)

Any ribbons-leftover Christmas ribbon is perfect for this.

A ruler

Scissors

A brad-That is the little thing that has a round head and two prongs that you press open. People use it to put through holes they have punched to keep papers together. Your mom or dad probably have some in their desk.

A stapler

A regular or plastic straw

What To Do:

Color the paper on both sides with bright colors. Use your ruler to find the center of the square and mark it with a little spot. Cut with your scissors from each corner to almost (but not quite) the center of your square. There should be a circle in the middle that is about one inch in diameter. Now fold every other point to the middle and staple them in place. Poke a hole in the middle with the point of your scissors or the tip of the brad. Poke the brad through the paper center and through a hole you have punched in the straw. There is your pinwheel. My students put theirs up on the door of their rooms for a March decoration. Email me with what you do with yours. Mrs. L.
