RECESS April 30
Hi Boys and Girls. I went to Leeds Castle today. I always thought that Leeds Castle was near the large British City of Leeds, but in fact it is between London and Dover in the south east corner. It is very old. It was taken away from a man the King did not like, and given to the cousin of William II in 1090. That is a very long time ago. After that it was owned or lived in by several different noble families. The castle has a very interesting history. The water you see around the castle is called a moat. It was used to protect the castle from invaders. It is very deep and is difficult to cross. The moat is fed by a river that flows nearby.
