Recess TimeHere is your Activity for December 3FridayHi, Boys and Girls: Today is Friday December 3 and this is the first day of Hanukkah (han uh kuh) for people of the Jewish faith. During Hanukkah (or Chanukah) gifts are exchanged and a candle is lit every night on a special kind of candle holder called a Menorah. Jewish people believe that after they won a great battle they found in their temple only a small amount of oil to keep their Holy lamps lighted. By a miracle, the lamps stayed lighted for eight days. That is why eight candles are lit during this festival. During this time The Jewish people also give gifts to the poor and do good deeds. Color the picture of the Menorah and color a flame on each one of the candles for eight days.
It is interesting to know about the celebrations of other cultures and religions. Mrs. L.
