Book Review

Review:

Gathering Blue, By Lois Lowry

This story is mainly about a girl named Kira. Kira has a magic way with thread. Her hands would weave for her-almost without her thinking about it. Kira’s mother and father are both dead. She is forced to go to a council of guardians which is like a town council. It is up to them what happens to her. They decide she can live. They put her in a very nice place and they want her to weave some kind of blanket like her mother used to do. The blanket tells what will happen in the future in some magic kind of way. Kira finally figures out what is happening with the aid of a boy and a child she meets. Her whole life changes in her new home. Read the book to find out why.

Megan wrote this report especially for "The Reading Room." I also have read this wonderful book and can recommend it to any strong grade 5 reader. It is also a good book to read aloud to a class or to a fourth grader-with discussions. Mrs. L.
