Book Review

The Quiltmakers Gift
Written by Jeff Brumbeau Illustrated
by Gail de Marcken.
Review:
The story is about a very old woman who makes quilts that are
so beautiful it is almost like magic. She never sells her quilts, though. She sneaks into
the village each night and gives a quilt to a poor family or homeless person. No one can
buy one of her quilts for any price.
Also in the area is a very greedy king who can never have
enough stuff. He expects (x pex ts) everyone to bring him presents at Christmas and
because he is so greedy he has even declared himself two birthdays every year.
He hears about the quiltmaker and decides he must have one of
her quilts. He tries to scare her with soldiers, offers her money and finally he even puts
her life in danger. She won't sell him a quilt at all for any price and turns around the
bad things he tries to do into good things.
Finally the greedy king .......Oh no you don't! I am not about
to tell you any more about this story. You should read it for yourself and by the way, the
pictures are not only beautiful and creative they are authentic representations (rep re
sen tay shuns) of real quilt patterns. Please read this book and I would like to send a
special thanks to my friend Holly True for sharing this and many other books with me. That
is one of the best things friends can do for each other-Share a Book!! Happy reading-Mrs.
