Welcome to our Mr. Man and Little Miss section. I
have known and loved these stories for many years. They are always the ones I
chose to read when I am invited into kindergarten classes to be the story lady
because they are the children’s favorites as well. All of the books were
written by a man named Roger Hargreaves. Mr. Hargreaves died in 1988 but his son
now writes stories and helps others to share these wonderful books with
children.
Here is a part of one of the stories for you to read.
See if you can read it. If you think it is hard, you may ask someone to read it
to you. Having someone read to you is a great way to learn to read yourself.
"Whatever Mr. Wrong did was absolutely,
totally, completely, utterly wrong. However hard he tried, he just couldn’t do
anything right. One fine morning, Mr. Wrong woke up. He hadn’t slept very well
because of the way he’d made his bed the day before.
He jumped out of bed, fell over (twice), put on
his shoes (on the wrong feet), went to the bathroom (tripping over the bathmat),
squeezed out some toothpaste (onto the wrong side of his toothbrush), brushed
his teeth (ouch!) and fell downstairs. Bump, bump, bump, bump." (From the
story "Mr. Wrong")
Yes, this is a very funny story. Most of the Roger
Hargreaves stories are funny. He used to be a cartoonist. That means he drew
comics for the funny papers.
These books are so wonderful that over the years,
they have been printed in 20 different languages. That means, boys and girls,
that his books are read and enjoyed all over the world. I hope you enjoy them
too.
Happy Reading-Mrs. L.
